History

The history of Lubbock is as varied and fascinating as that of any western community in the United States. Some 150 million years ago, this area (now known as the South Plains) was once a vast lake. The passage of time combined with the forces of wind and other natural occurrences created the level surface of the Plains as it appears today.

The Giant Side of Texas has also seen rock ‘n roll legend, Buddy Holly, and many other musicians including Bob Wills, Mac Davis, Waylon Jennings and the Maines Brothers, just to name a few. Many other Giants, such as Lauro Cavazos, Polk Robinson, Natalia Johnson, and Jerry Gray have also originated from this place we call Lubbock, the Giant Side of Texas.
